Amboseli National Park

Amboseli National Park to see these noble beasts, who are protected from poachers.

Amboseli is renowned for being the greatest site in Africa to get up up and personal with free-roaming elephants. Here, the population is so dense that sightings are almost assured!

It’s only one of the numerous reasons why the park is Kenya’s second most popular tourist destination, trailing only the Masai Mara.

About Amboseli

Amboseli is a photographer’s dream come true. Those beautiful images you’ve seen of elephants posing in front of Mt.

They bear their big tusks with dignity as they assemble at regular watering sites, delighting the numerous visitors who come to Kilimanjaro’s snow-capped peak? They were brought here.

Kilimanjaro, Africa’s greatest peak and the world’s highest free-standing mountain, stands as a dignified and attractive sentinel above the park. When the clouds clear at twilight or morning, you’ll be treated to views of the mountain’s snow-capped top.

However, it would be naive to believe that elephants are the park’s only wildlife attraction. Wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, gazelle, and, of course, cheetahs and lions may be seen on game drives throughout Amboseli’s vast vistas.

Smaller animals such as hyenas, foxes, jackals, vervet monkeys, and yellow baboons are plentiful.

The park’s marshes and lakes are home to a diverse array of birds. Pelicans, kingfishers, crakes, egrets, and the Madagascar heron are also common sights. There have been 47 different varieties of raptors observed, including the falcon and the harrier eagle.
The sky and horizon are immense here, embracing Amboseli’s five animal ecosystems, which assure huge numbers and diversity: wetlands, savannah, forests, thorn-bush, and Lake Amboseli’s dry lakebed.

The word “Amboseli” is derived from a Maasai word that means “salty dust.”

The Maasai people can be found in various settlements scattered around the park. You may pay them a visit and immerse yourself in a genuinely authentic and old African culture.

Amboseli National Park is located in Kenya.

Elephants

Amboseli is a small park, measuring 392 square kilometers (151 square miles), yet that is part of its appeal. Because of the smaller size, there is a higher concentration of species, making viewing easier.

Location:

On the Kenya/Tanzania border, the park is located northwest of Mt. Kilimanjaro. It’s near to the Kenya Coast’s beaches and may easily be a one-day safari for those looking for a quick escape.

Climate:

Except during the rainy season, the park is normally hot and dry. The average daytime temperature is 28 degrees Celsius/82 degrees Fahrenheit.

When to visit:

The park is open all year and is always open.

Finest time to visit: The dry season (June–October) offers the best animal viewing. This is the time of year when animals congregate to marshes, lakes, and other bodies of water. You, too, will be drawn to the pleasant shade and the opportunity to see wildlife.

Getting there: By road — Giga Destinations Safaris offers tours from Mombasa and Nairobi. The Kimana Gate in Tsavo West National Park provides access from Mombasa.

Note that many of the park’s inner routes are impassable during the rainy season due to the muddy volcanic soil.

By air – At the Empusel entrance, the park has only one light aircraft air strip.
