With our expert hiking guide, this 5-day Mount Kenya climbing tour takes you across the slopes of Mount Kenya via the Narumoru climbing route.
Join a trained mountain guide for this once-in-a-lifetime adventure to Mount Kenya’s Point Lenana via the Naro Moru path. Along the route, take in the breathtaking scenery and encounter some of Africa’s most famous species.
Mount Kenya, which rises more than 5,000 meters above the surrounding Serengeti, throws a massive shadow on its surroundings.
One of the most common ways to appreciate the stunning grandeur of this landmark mountain is to trek up the Naro Moru trail to one of the numerous towering peaks on the top.
Our final goal will be Point Lenana (4,985 meters), but we’ll meet in Nairobi and drive to the park, crossing the equator on the way.
We’ll trek up to a meteorological station once we’ve arrived in the park, where we’ll enjoy great views of the mountain in the early morning, when the air is clearest.
From here, we’ll trek to the top of Mackinders Valley, where we’ll get the opportunity to observe some of Africa’s most famous animals while taking in the landscape.
We’ll get an early start the next day and trek up to Point Lenana in time to view the sunrise, which will be a wonderful experience.
We’ll descend back down the mountain to the meteorological station after taking in the views of the rest of Kenya and perhaps even seeing Kilimanjaro. We trek to the park gate the next day and fly back to Nairobi.
So, what do you have to lose? Book your spot on a spectacular 5-day trip up Mount Kenya’s slopes to Point Lenana!
After breakfast, escape Nairobi for Naro Moru town, where you will come and stay at the Youth Hostel after sorting out and organizing any gear you may need for the hiking trip up the mountain, which will also serve as an acclimatization process due to Naro Moru's elevation of 2,000 meters above sea level.
Proceed to the Naro Moru Park Gate and trek a distance of 9 kilometers in 4 hours on average. The rest of the day is free to relax and continue the acclimatization process. Dinner and stay at the hut, which is located at a height of 3,000 meters above sea level.
Hike up the Teleki valley to Mackinder's camp for a wonderful view of the major peaks after breakfast. The walking time will be around five hours. Meals and nights at the hut, which is located at a height of 4,200 meters.
A pre-down attempt of Point Lenana will greet you when you wake up. An early start assures a successful summit bid, as well as an unobstructed glimpse of the magnificent summit vista, weather permitting. At 4,985 meters above sea level, Pt Lenana is the highest point in Australia. After conquering Mt. Kenya, return to Mackinders camp for dinner and a night in the hut.
In 3 to 4 hours, descend to Met Station and then to the park entrance after breakfast. After lunch, drive to Naro Moru town and return to Nairobi in the afternoon.
